We love independent boutique b+b Belgravia

Wednesday, April 2nd, 2014

We want to share our b+b and our Love of Belgravia ,  to explain why we are proud to be part of the boutique fabric of this independent neighbourhood.  Belgravia is quiet, peaceful and exclusive in comparison to it’s neighbours . Buildings are tall white townhouses organised in quiet streets and squares – it has always been considered a fashionable part of London and has attracted fashion houses – Jenny Packham’s  wedding boutique window is a joy and Allison Rodgers offers a discerning service to very high profile Belgravia residents including Cherie Blair and Nigella Lawson.

The independent spirit is alive. Just around the corner  is Elizabeth Street – home to Mungo and Maud – Luxury dog & cat accessories for the contemporary home & lifestyle. We love a browse here and often suggest our guests take their pooches for a perusal whilst staying with us!  And not to forget Peggy Porschen. I dare anyone to try to pass  without stopping to gaze at her inimitable fancy cupcakes and sipping on a capuccino whilst watching the world go by. Peggy offers a super range of baking courses and we provide 4* accommodation within walking distance of the famous pink front door. The artisan foodie culture is alive and well in Belgravia.  Olivo’s Sardinian collection has expanded into divine ice creams and gelatos whilst OlivoCarne still serves the best steaks around. No visit to Belgravia’s foodie scene is complete without a glass of something cheeky in the Ebury Street Wine Bar. Gourmet food acclaimed throughout the world and still going strong after 52 years!

Walking is  the way to explore – we are within 10 minutes easy stroll of Victoria Station – tube, rail and bus networks throughout the City and beyond. ..And just around the corner is the famous Buckingham Palace Road leading directly to the Palace and Parks. But this leads us away from Belgravia and perhaps we will explore further afield in our next blog…!

Belgravia in the mood for Love and Romance

Friday, January 31st, 2014

Love is in the Air.

With Belgravia well established on the London map as a great borough for Food, Drink, shopping and celebrity watching, we are proud to part of this fab community .

Thinking of spoiling your loved one to a fantastic ‘experience’ rather than a pressie, you could do a lot worse than treat them to an overnight trip to the City of London.

Here is a very short suggestion of the Top Romantic spots in our very special neighbourhood..

Peggy Porschen Cakes – THE bespoke cake design company occupying a very pink corner of Ebury Street! B+B Belgravia have looked after Peggy’s guests attending her superb masterclasses for a long, long time. Peggy’s Spring 2014 focus are Cakes In Bloom  - Peggy will share her love and help teach her students the art of sugar flower creation….how romantic is that?!  This is also the perfect spot for sipping a cappuccino and watching the world go by.. with pink cup cake, of course!

Thomas Cubitt – we have always rated this lovely pub on a sunny corner.. al fresco dining during the spring/summer or cosy dining room during the winter months. The Thomas Cubitt has been recently voted in the Top Ten London Dating Hotspots and mentioned in the Telegraph for this reason. We love the wine list and premium beers and spotted some very famous Chelsea residents enjoying the ambience as well..!

Belgravia Gallery – a true gem ..this month our neighbours have exhibited poems written by Nelson Mandela and drawing s of him alongside his reflections of Robben Island. A must for Culture Vultures and anyone who supports the finer things in life..

Bijoux Spa – right opposite us, this super French run spa is a favourite for cosmetic well being procedures. Discreetly situated behind a beautiful, pretty, twinkling shop front – we challenge any of our guests to walk by without being tempted…!

…there are many many more independent treasures on the doorstop of B+B Belgravia – whats stopping you from booking THE most romantic weekend in this tranquil corner of the capital …a warm welcome awaits.

Ice skate your way around London’s best attractions

Ice Skating at Somerset House, London

London has taken cues from New York with a growing number of exciting ice-skating rinks appearing around the City. Swirling your partner around the ice locked in a romantic stance, or sliding with style whilst admiring the London scenery are both exciting ways to spend a glamorous London break.

B+B Belgravia’s central location takes time out of the equation when deciding on where to skate first.

The Natural History Museum

Taking a sidestep from its usual activities, visitors can skate on a 950 square metre ice rink half the size of a football pitch from 2nd November to the 6th January. It is open 10am until 10pm most days. Ticket prices start at £9.

Book online with Ticketmaster or book in person at the ice rink box office in the museum gardens.

Tower of London

Skating is available outside one of London’s most iconic landmarks until the 6th of January 2013. Beefeaters and crows look on as visitors take to the dry moat and show off their skills. Ice guides are available for supervised group skating (£32 per session). Sessions last for one hour, and wheelchairs are welcome except during the last session of the day.

Peak time tickets are £13, off peak tickets cost £11.

Somerset House

The grand square outside this cultural landmark is hosting the most glamorous outdoor ice rink this year. Their unique offering comes in the form of ice skating club nights, which are not to be missed. Top DJ’s and artists play whilst crowds dance on the light covered arena. Upcoming performances include the Ministry of sound radio, Joey Negro, DJ Mag, and Lovesick.

Prices increase the later the sessions start with a 1hour 15-minute session at 16:15 costing £12.50. Individual prices are set for each club night.

B+B Belgravia has the modern comforts and hearty breakfasts to prepare you for the ice. We also have the comfortable beds and furnishings and to rest your weary legs. It is handy that some of the best shopping districts in the world, such as Harrods, are nearby should you be tired from all the skating.

Belgravia tops place of most desirable places to live

Thursday, April 19th, 2012

A survey we carried out recently revealed that of all the places in London to live, Belgravia is the most desirable. It appears that most people would like to rub shoulders with the rich and famous – and perhaps even The Queen!

More than 1 in 3 people said they would choose to live near our B+B – but admitted that they probably couldn’t afford it! So we’re still an aspirational nation, which is comforting. 75% of people said that London was “too expensive”, but what was especially interesting was the differences between generations.

Most young people wanted to live in Canary Wharf, while middle aged people tended to aspire to live in trendy Islington – especially middle-age women. It was actually the over-55s who voted en masse for Belgravia as their choice of abode.

When you think about it, this is probably quite natural – young people want jobs and money, and Canary Wharf has both, as well as a growing number of trendy (but expensive) apartments. Islington has bars and restaurants, and a certain relaxed atmosphere that would be perfect for young families who want to bring their children up in the city itself, without having to move to the suburbs.

Belgravia is known for its upmarket chic, with many famous residents such as Roman Abramovich, Michael Caine and Sean Connery pushing up the value of housing way beyond the million mark. It’s also known for its Michelin-starred restaurants, so if you want a bit of the high-life, it’s the perfect place.
